The company name comes from the sport of cycling. In cycling, a breakaway occurs when a cyclist or group of cyclists accelerates away from the pack and creates a gap as the lead is increased.
Breakaway Media Founder and Principal Glenn McCreedy, an award-winning writer, producer, director, and marketer, has more than 15 years experience in digital publishing, marketing, and communications, integrated marketing and sales of corporate sponsorships, digital media production, and building brands in the public and private sectors. He has produced for ESPN, MTV, ABC, network TV affiliates in Arizona markets, and online streaming services.
His credits in corporate/industrial and education include work with Crayola, GMC, Raytheon Missile Systems, The University of Arizona, Pima Community College, Cochise County, and Prescott College.
He has developed, directed, and managed corporate partners programs and sponsorships for The University of Arizona, Pima Community College, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the Southwestern Fair Commission at the Pima County Fairgrounds, and Bisbee Cycling Productions, Inc.
Glenn has consulted for The University of Arizona Controlled Environment Agriculture Center, Joint Technological Education District of Pima County, Educational Enrichment Foundation, Sierra Vista International Air Show Corporation, Sierra Vista Convention and Visitors Bureau, Drylands Institute, Arizona International Film Festival, and celebrity athletes and authors such as Triple Crown jockey Kent Desormeaux and authors J. Carson Black and J.A. Jance.

Breakaway Media publishes several bestselling thrillers, mysteries, and suspense novels on the major digital publishing platforms. In 2011, Breakaway Media's The Shop and the Laura Cardinal series of crime fiction thrillers (Darkness on the Edge of Town, Dark Side of the Moon, The Devil's Hour) by J. Carson Black reached the top ten of all books and in multiple categories on Amazon's bestseller lists.
Breakaway Media's publication of J. Carson Black's thriller The Shop has sold nearly 500,000 copies. The Shop was republished by Thomas & Mercer and that edition reached #1 among all books on the Amazon Kindle bestseller list in 2012, displacing The Hunger Games from that coveted ranking. Later that year, Breakaway Media sold option rights to Sony Pictures Television for J. Carson Black's Laura Cardinal series of crime thrillers.
